Tanglewood

Lenox, MA

After the acquisition of adjacent property, the Boston Symphony Orchestra engaged Carr, Lynch and Sandell to prepare a master plan for Tanglewood, the Symphony's summer home. The entrance to the site and the parking areas were relocated, the New Seiji Ozawa Concert Hall was sited, site circulation was revised and locations for practice sheds and other facilities were identified. CLS designed the landscape improvements and oversaw the implementation of the plan which included the road and parking system. A garden was designed with a sundial which utilizes the observer as the Gnomon, In addition, CLS designed the ticket office, entrance gate, gift shop building; the cafeteria with dining hall; a small food service building; the renovated barn; and several Rehearsal sheds remotely located in the woods.
