Carr, Lynch and Sandell collaborated with Donna Walcavage on the design of Stuyvesant Cove Park. Following mid-town Manhattan's community's strong desire for an environmental emphasis, the park design recalls the original shoreline of the East River. The master plan includes an environmental center focusing on the relationship between New York City and the East River Estuary. CLS designed covered seating areas, lighting, custom benches and tables as well as the esplanade rail and patterned paving, all intended to carry out the environmental theme. The project included road work, construction of the new bikeway and esplanade, as well as extensive planting between East 18th and 25th streets.
