Rockefeller Park

New York, NY

The 8-acre park is the largest of the new open spaces in the celebrated Battery Park City, one of New York's most important new developments on the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan. CLHS's design for the Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Park draws its inspiration from the great 19th century parks created in New York and the need of the Lower Manhattan neighborhood for precious green open space. The park accommodates a wide range of users and activities by providing lawn area for passive and active recreation, terraces with game board tables, handball courts, a playground, park house and lily pond. The Sculptural bronze work of artist Tom Otterness was integrated into game terrace walls , paving, tables, lamp posts, and into the playground.
