New Charles River Basin

Boston and Cambridge, MA

Carr, Lynch and Sandell was selected by the Metropolitan District Commission to produce a Master Plan for the New Charles River Basin, the largest public park project undertaken in Boston or Cambridge in the 20th century. The plan joins the two cities and provides public access to the mouth of the Charles river. The plan proposes the path to transform what has become an industrial wasteland into a chain of parks and plazas, linking the well used esplanade parks of the existing Charles River Basin to the Harbor Walk and the public edge of Boston Harbor.
